Drew has some new phrases and words worth tracking, so this is my attempt to keep a record of such phrases:
"Mommy-Daddy-Mommy-Daddy. Sooo happy!" (this was in a sing-song voice said when he thought no one was listening.
"Buh-bye. See you soon!" (said while trying to walk around in Daddy's shoes)
Kacation (vacation), bubbuws (bubbles), de-wishus (delicious),
On his own, he can now count to eleven, starting from five. With help he will start at two, but never one.
He knows every letter, but not in order. When singing the ABC's we typically hit the following letters "A, B, D, F, G, H, L, M, N, Q" then very quickly jumping to "U, V, dubby, Y, ZZZZZZZZ!!!" The letter Z seems to be the most fun to say.
Many words are accentuated at the ending. For example: Mick-EYYY!, coo-KIE!!!, crac-KA!!! "no MOW" (no more)
When speaking of things he loves dearly, he will sometimes add an "Oh" to the beginning. "OH MOMMY!" "OH MICKEY!"

Lately Drew has been insistent about wearing socks with his summer shoes - Don't ask me why. Because he certainly doesn't ask to wear a shirt and shorts...

the good stuff
Drew can be very serious and very silly. I love how serious he is in the first photo. Almost as if he knew the photo was coming.
The second one, well, that shows you just one of his many quirks. He loves to put things inside boxes - this time he put his milk into a box from our recycling.
The fact that it looks like he's drinking butter made me think of my bro-in-law. This one's for you ET.

alphabet
Drew is much like his Dad, in that he loves to read and is a superstar at learning his letters. He constantly amazes me. Today he was watching "Super Why" a show focused on teaching kids to read. When going through the alphabet he not only knew the letter Q, but he also knew it came after P! Way to go Drew!

two.one.two
We've been singing the number song lately - It's a song we used to sing in choir to warm up our voices. So you sing the scales with numbers - 1,2,3,4,5,6...1,2,3,4...1,2,3,4,56. Drew has picked up the first two bits. Two. One. Two. One.
He does sing it at times - Two, one-two. Two, one-two. But I haven't caught those moments on film.

storytime
Kids are funny, especially your own.
Discipline - Drew just put himself in "time-out" only to get my attention. He is currently standing in his little corner, peeking over at me to see if I am watching him. We don't put him in time-out much, because it doesn't seem to work for him. He thinks it's funny. Though there are times when we all need a 30-second break to take some time to breathe.
Pretend - We're slowly entering into the realm of "pretend" or "imitation" with Drew. It's going to be so much fun when he really gets the hang of it. Recently he's been pretending to go to sleep in different places - outside in the pool (the empty inflatable pool), on our bed or on the floor. He just plops down and says "Nigh-nigh" with a big smile on his face and his eyes wide open. He's also starting to pretend snore - "shoo-shoo".
This morning I was getting ready in the living room and he grabbed my keys and his diaper bag. He headed towards the door waving and saying bye-bye. Again he had a huge smile on his face knowing full well how silly he was being.
He's also started repeating things he hears at daycare. The most notable being "oh man!" But he says it in a really deep voice and elongates the man - "oh muaan!" Too cute.

more backyard fun
From the moment he wakes up in the morning he asks to go "owside?". It appears the rest of our summer will look much like this...Thankfully good friends of ours has offered their pool for "play dates" and Drew is going to love every minute of his time there.
We'll also be looking for some "outdoor activities" if you have any suggestions! My next goal will be to find some type of safe finger-paint for a child who can't seem to keep his hands out of his mouth.

drew stories
Our little Drew. Certainly all parents feel as we do, that every day opens another part of this person's character and his/her idiosyncrasies. Drew enlightens us all the time. (Note: This is a long post and is mostly just a reminder for me to add to his baby book someday and also for those who enjoy hearing Drew stories.)
To start, he's fairly easy going around strangers - actually, he's typically on his best behavior. When we were young, both Doug and I had our shy times. (I'll let Doug tell you about his time spent in the kindergarten cloak room.) My stories are too boring to tell, but they lasted through much of high school. Drew on the other hand will likely never have a shy moment. If he seems shy, he's pretending. He loves people and will say "hi" to just about anyone who looks his way in public. Most people light up with a smile. Someone stopped me at the grocery store recently to say, "You have a pretty special little boy there." I can't say I argued with him.
Now when he is at home with Mom and Dad we can't help but notice his unique preferences. For example, he almost always has to be carrying/holding something. It doesn't matter if he is sitting still (which rarely happens) or on the move. When he was crawling, he would simply adjust his crawl to use his wrists or forearms in place of his hands. Now that he is walking life seems much easier, albeit precarious at times. His initial walk looks like Frankenstein - So to see him walk around with a huge, empty box of cereal and his blankie around his neck like a scarf...well, I don't exactly know what to say about it.
If he's not carrying our recycling items around (ie, the empty box of cereal or an empty juice bottle) he has either a book or the letters T and U. Doug quickly noted, it's actually U & T. UT. Does this mean Drew will stay in Austin when he grows up? I'll take it as a positive sign for now. But really, of all the 26 letters he specifically chooses U and T every single time. This isn't like it just happened a couple of times. Several times each day this happens. I will find the U and T sitting random places in the house where he has left them. The only other letter we know for certain he recognizes is "I". Is he trying to tell us something? Maybe he's asking to go to a UT football game?
Aside from carrying letters around all day he also enjoys manipulating containers. He'll make just about anything a toy if either he or some of his toys (or both) can sit inside of it. The juice containers, for example. These have been HOURS of entertainment - lid off, toys go in, lid on, shake, repeat. Sometimes he has to ask for help: "Hep, hep?" Or a basket we use for toys - he gets made if the toys are in it without him. He'll dump all the toys out and then pick out his favorites to sit in the basket with him.
He's also much like his father when it comes to books. By the end of the day almost all of his books are on the floor - he can't read just one at a time! Again, now that he's walking he doesn't have to crawl with one hand and a book in the other. He can actually walk most of the way from his room to me with a book in hand - now his mouth is running too: "(r)wead? (r)wead?"

drew. up. dates.

This kid loves to laugh...All mommy/daddy has to is skip around the room, waving arms wildly and every so often come in close for a big kiss! He just loves it. I suppose it takes his mind off the broccoli he's about to eat.

Lately, Drew has decided it's a good idea to decorate his room with baby wipes - not to mention it all takes place while atop the very hard Eames rocking chair (yes, he has figured out how to climb onto just about anything.

Oh and did I mention he has a girlfriend now? She's beautiful, just like her name - Bella. She likes to take him out for long rides in her wagon - she of course takes care of the kids (stuffed animals) while he lovingly adores his set of keys.
